In the Indianapolis area this past week, we’ve had a lot of wind and rain. If your garage and front stoop look anything like mine, chances are falling leaves, rain/snow and even salt have been tracked into the home. On top of the changing weather, the Holidays bring more foot traffic and the carpet can take a beating.
Vacuuming more regularly (daily) will prevent the dirt and debris from settling and may be adequate to care for you carpets and area rugs. The brushes raise the pile and loosen dirt which can otherwise damage fibers. Three to seven strokes across the carpet, with the last stroke in the direction of the pile, keeps the carpet clean and eliminates stroke lines.
When the carpet or area rug under your furniture looks noticeably different from the exposed traffic areas, it’s time for more serious cleaning.
If you’re cleaning carpet, there are many tools and cleaners on the market that will allow you to do it yourself. But, a professional company will have better equipment and may know more about treating specific stains.
If you need an area rug cleaned, we recommend you leave that to the professionals. It is not recommended that you clean an area rug with the same equipment and cleaners you’d use on carpet. Area rugs require a more gentle, but effective, approach to cleaning. Your area rugs are most likely much too special—and often too costly—to take the risk of causing damage by either scrubbing too hard or using the wrong cleaning solutions and utensils on them. Trust your area rugs to trained, certified specialists who will bring the patterns and colors of your area rugs back to their original, like new condition.
