Have you browsed through a magazine and noticed that even in the “candid” shots of “celebrities” walking down the street, they look amazing in their clothing? Are they wearing very expensive plain white t-shirts and jeans designed to fit perfectly, or are their bodies just that awesome? What about all the folks on TV reporting the news or acting in your favorite television show or movie. Do they have access to specialty stores where the clothing looks and fits great on just them?
According to this blog ***(who quotes Clinton Kelly of What Not to Wear as her source), everything a celebrity wears has been tailored. They ignore the actual size numbers on the tags, find something that fits their widest place, and then have it completely altered to fit. Clinton Kelly reminds the subject in the blog that “historically, up until the last few generations, the vast majority of people either made their own clothing or had their clothing made by tailors and seamstresses. You had your clothing made to accommodate the measurements of your individual body. Nothing on the show or in People magazine is off the rack and unaltered”.
You know, he’s right. The idea of ready-to-wear is a new concept. Going to a store, picking out a piece of clothing based on a number, taking it home and then wearing it off the rack, is something people never did just a few generations ago.
No wonder I hate trying on jeans! I never look as great as the celebrity that “swears by” her favorite brand’s amazing fit. Most “celebrities”, according to Clinton Kelly, are buying clothing in a larger size and having EVERY item altered to fit them perfectly. Have you ever thought about doing that? I never have but – WOW! Light bulb moment!
I think I’m going to go home and weed out my closet then vow to shop less, invest in pieces I really love, and invest in tailoring so they fit specifically for me.
