It’s a new year and a great time to update your wardrobe by implementing some of 2014’s fashion trends. You don’t have to break the bank to plug in some of what you’ve seen on the runways. Add a few of these 2014 winter trends to refresh your wardrobe this year:
Brocade: Feminine and worldly, brocade has a “rich” look about it. Try adding a brocade clutch to your wardrobe to add some texture and interest.
Pairing Black & Gold: Warm Gold paired with cool black creates a modern and glamorous look. Think of a classic black dress with a chunky gold bangle and strappy gold shoe.
Tweed: This trend is great for work wear – and the winter we’ve been having! Warm nubby weaved fabric is a classic that tends to be trendy year after year with a few tweaks here and there. Think Chanel (who has a long history with this rough textured fabric) but with a modern touch of metallic, pops of color and with denim and leather.
Graphite: This new “neutral” is a bit softer than silver. The metallic adds shine without looking too flashy and it will go with everything you own. During the day pair a metallic handbag or pair of shoes with your tailored separates and later wear them with your little black dress.
Grey Flannel provides a plush feel and an instant contrast to your feminine clothes for Fall. It can be a bit masculine since it’s known as a menswear fabric but it’s cozy on a pair of ballet flats, closed toe heels or fedora with a ribboned band. For work, a wool-blend bag with leather trim will give your ensemble a touch of lux.
Houndstooth will smarten up your outfit. The black and white checks add a graphic punch to your solid separates. Try a these houndstooth gloves with your basic black winter coat.
Plaid: In either traditional tartan or a lighter & brighter color palette, this pattern never loses its appeal. For an instant preppy look complete your outfit with a plaid scarf, a watch or a pair of ballet flats.
Mix and Match Prints: This may take a little practice but done right, it’s fun and trendy. Mix two different prints in the same color family or try two different animal prints for evening.
Statement Sweaters: Everyone from Old Navy to Saks is selling these interesting sweaters that can be paired with anything from slim fit trousers to boyfriend jeans – even a cute pleated skirt.
